St. Denis Church, Harrisville, NH
Upon entering, one's eye is drawn to a large stained glass window above
the altar. The Madonna and Child are seated upon a throne, their faces softly
glowing in the morning sunlight.
After evaluating a number of candidates, former pastor Father Thomas
Duston hired Tom Gloudemans, a Hancock artisan. Tom examined all the windows
and determined that the large windows in the front and back of the church
seriously needed immediate attention. It was decided that Tom would repair
the Madonna and Child window first.
Laconia Public Library, Laconia, NH
The Laconia Public Library (1903) is cited as one of the most beautiful public libraries
in the country. The original section, known as the Gale Memorial Library building, was
designed by the famed Boston architect Charles Brigham in a Romanesque Revival style. One
of the most striking features of the building is its collection of over 90 stained glass
windows, including individual panels. Each window depicts geometric designs in naturalistic
colors and tones. They are carefully located throughout the building to highlight
the sun's rays at various points during the day and to create appealing soft light
for library patrons.
